The Power of Hashtags: Part 1
FACT: An Instagram post with at least one hashtag averages more engagement than a post with no hashtags (12.6% to be exact).
Although this number may not impress you, the power, versatility and ubiquity of hashtags can not be ignored. They can help your posts reach a target audience, attract NEW followers in your niche, increase engagement, and develop a more positive and recognizable brand image.
As ridiculous as hashtags might seem to marketing veterans who remember a time before Twitter and Facebook, the younger generation and potential customers/clients don’t. To them, using hashtags is as natural and common as typing their query into the search box.
Over the last couple of years, Instagram has updated analytics available to customers with business accounts, and we decided to highlight our favorite features:
1. Track Your Instagram Hashtag Success with Post Insights
If you are managing an Instagram business account, you have access to Instagram Insights, which allows you to analyze how effective your hashtags are in getting more views or impressions on your posts! Experiment with different hashtags, track their reach and compile a list of the most effective tags to use for your posts. Maximum amount of hashtags per feed post: 30
2. Add Instagram Hashtags to Your Instagram Stories
The quickest way to test out the reach of your hashtag is to add it to an Instagram story. Just like regular posts, when you add a hashtag to an Instagram story, the analytics become available, although only for business accounts. Post stories at the same time with different hashtags per story and analyze the popularity of each hashtag once the story expires (hashtag popularity= hashtag views/total story views).
3. Follow Hashtags on Instagram
Following hashtags allows you to stay up-to-date on various topics (or communities) by following a hashtag related to your interests. This is a great tool to keep informed on trends, competition and viral content in your niche.
